The video was taken after Argentina won the 2022 Finalissima against Italy, where the Argentine players celebrated their victory by singing together. One of the songs they sang contained lyrics that offended Mbappe, referring to him as a hereditary player who defends the French national team.
The chant in the video was condemned by many, including from France and Argentina. The French Football Federation (FFF) denounced the song as “racist, unacceptable and shameful”. The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) also stated that they were “deeply concerned” by the content of the song and would investigate the matter.

Enzo Fernandez himself has apologized for his role in the video. He said that he did not mean to offend anyone and he regrets if his singing has caused offense. However, his apology did little to defuse the controversy.
